Children Deserve to Be Taught

Children don’t have to be taught how to be bad: sin comes naturally! That’s why it’s so important that parents to not only point out misbehaviour, but also teach and model how to do the right thing.

After watching video two, consider taking these steps to get the most out of this part of the series:

// Step 1

Read and meditate on this verse: “Hear, my son, and accept my words, that the years of your life may be many. I have taught you the way of wisdom; I have led you in the paths of uprightness.” (Proverbs 4:10-11 ESV)

// Step 2

Answer these discussion questions:

1. 1. According to Dr. Kathy Koch, “change involves an exchange.” How can you help your kids not only avoid making sinful choices, but exchange those choices for healthy, God-honouring alternatives?
   2. The apostle Paul admonishes us to “not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewal of your mind” (Romans 12:2). What might this look like for your kids? For you?

Spend time in prayer:

Dear Lord,
We want our kids to avoid the bad stuff, but we also want to teach them how to replace the bad stuff with good stuff!
We want them not only to avoid sin, but to pursue righteousness with their hearts, souls and minds.
Help us make the pursuit of holiness a priority in our own lives and enable our kids to understand the importance of this exchange through our instruction and example.
