How Anxiety Impacts the Mind

After watching video 4, follow these steps to get the most out of this part of the series:

// Step 1

Read and meditate on this verse: “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honourable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” (Philippians 4:8)

// Step 2

Answer these discussion questions:

    1. What are some cognitive distortions you struggle with? Do you mind-read like the man in the grocery store or discount the positive like Jenn experienced on her run?
    2. How can you practise gratitude and positive thinking in your life?
    3. Is there a false core belief that you hold about yourself? Can you see how, for example, believing you’re not worthy can amplify anxious thoughts?

// Step 3

Read the articleBursting negative thought bubbles” for a list of cognitive distortions and how to counteract them.

// Step 4

Listen to the Focus on the Family Broadcast  “Calming Your Fears” with Deborah Pegues as she offers practical help and hope for those who feel overwhelmed by anxiety.
