7 Steps to a Healthier Marriage video series

Video-Series-Number-7

Finding Win-Win Solutions Instead of Compromise

In the previous video, Vicki Hooper talks about how couples can practise Heart Talk to increase intimacy in their marriage. But many couples also struggle with having conversations where a decision needs to be made. Too often couples choose to compromise, but this leads to one or both spouses feeling like they’ve lost. In this video, Wayne Reed describes Work Talk, a communication tool that will help you and your spouse make major decisions that are “win-win” for both of you.

After watching video 7, follow these steps to get the most out of this part of the series:

// Step 1

Read and meditate on this verse: “And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand.” (Mark 3:25)

// Step 2

Download and work through the “Work Talk” exercise that Wayne mentions in the video and go over the steps with your spouse. If you have a major decision to make – or you’d like to practise with a minor decision – use Work Talk to find a “win-win” solution.

// Step 3

Listen to the Focus on the Family Broadcast  “Managing Marriage Conflicts in Healthy Ways” with Dr. Greg and Erin Smalley as they describe how couples can manage conflict better by seeking “win-win” solutions.

// Step 4

Read the articleSix surefire ways to win an argument (and harm your marriage)” for a list of “no-win” tactics you and your spouse should avoid.

// Step 5

Consider attending one of our Marriage Enrichment Retreats or Conferences. The principles discussed in this video series have helped hundreds of couples strengthen their marriage, but many appreciate the opportunity for in-person assistance as they learn to put them into practice. Visit EnrichYourMarriage.ca to learn more about these retreats and conferences and find upcoming dates.
