The Problem with Pornography  video series

Why Talk About Pornography?

At Focus on the Family Canada, we get calls every day from people looking for help for the unique challenges they’re facing. One of the ways we support people is through our free, one-time phone consultation with our in-house counsellors. Luke Campbell is one of those counsellors.

Time and time again, people call in about their problem with pornography. The culture is loudly telling us it’s normal, but people are seeing damage being done to themselves, their relationships and their faith. That’s why we need to step into the discomfort of this topic and shine God’s light in the darkness.

After watching video 1, follow these steps to get the most out of this part of the series:

// Step 1

Read and meditate on this passage: “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.” (Romans 3:23-24)

// Step 2

Answer these discussion questions:

    1. Did you know how prevalent and accessible pornography is? How do you think that impacts our perception of its impact?
    2. Have you ever had a conversation about pornography or was it a taboo subject that was avoided when you were growing up?
    3. “They lobby hard to try to convince you and the broader culture that pornography is harmless, kind of like the tobacco companies used to do back in the ‘30s and ‘40s.” What do you think of this statement?

// Step 3

Read the article Porn and our kids: What parents need to know” for an interview with Over 18 documentary filmmaker Michelle Brock as she explains the long-term impact of early and repeated exposure to pornography.

// Step 4

Sign up for the free video series Discovering God’s Freedom From Pornography with Nick and Michelle Stumbo of Pure Desire Ministries. In these six videos, Nick describes his own experience with pornography addiction and how he eventually found freedom.
