Asking God for Help in Your Relationships

Even if your situation with your adult child seems hopeless, don’t give up praying for your child. In this concluding video, Dr. John Townsend encourages parents with the reminder that when we reach the end of ourselves and humbly acknowledge that we are fully dependent on God, he begins to work.

After watching video seven, consider taking these steps to get the most out of this part of the series:

// Step 1

Answer these discussion questions:

    1. What kind of growth would you love to see in your adult child’s life?

    2. What kind of growth do you think the Holy Spirit is interested in seeing in your child? Does your answer to this question change how you will pray for your child in the future?

// Step 2

Read and meditate on this verse: “Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.” (Romans 8:26-27 ESV)

// Step 3

Father God,
Y
ou know how much we desire an improved relationship with our child. Thank you for your promise in Romans 28 that even when we are discouraged and don’t know what more we can do, your Holy Spirit is still working on our behalf and moving mightily when we bring our child to you in prayer. We look forward, in faith, to what you will do in our situation with our child and we give you praise and thanks.
Amen.

// Step 4

Read the article Guidelines for happy grandparenting” to help you understand how well-meaning grandparents can slip into controlling behaviour that is not appreciated by their grown child.

// Step 5
