Estrangement
In this sixth video, Dr. John Townsend points to truths from Luke 15 and the story of the prodigal son to encourage parents whose efforts to reconcile are continually rebuffed by their child. For parents who have reconnected with their child but the relationship continues to be stormy, Dr. Townsend suggests some boundaries to help keep the peace.

Answer these discussion questions:
// Step 2
Read and meditate on this verse: “Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.” (1 Peter 4:8 ESV)
// Step 3
Spend time in prayer:
Heavenly Father,
Even when our relationship with our adult child feels like an entirely one-way conversation, we pray that we will still be a positive influence in our child’s life. Help us to keep setting an example of courage, humility, patience and hope as we reach out to them. Regardless of the final outcome, may our child recognize that we do love them, and may our child gain from us an exemplary lesson in how to reconcile with others.
Amen.
// Step 4
Read the article “Living out The Blessing with your older children” to discover how John Trent and his wife pursued their daughter Kari when she was estranged from them and from the Lord.
