About The Position

The Vice President of Donor Development provides senior leadership to all aspects of the Donor Relations and Development departments that will ensure the cultivation of all donors by keeping them connected to the ministry, thanking them for their giving, and inspiring them to continue supporting the ministry both financially and in prayer. As well as acquiring new donors to build the base of support and increase giving to the ministry to support the expanding work of Focus on the Family Canada.

1. Executive Leadership

  • Provide leadership and direction on how best to communicate the vision, impact and funding needs of Focus on the Family Canada based on internal research and best practice research from the non-profit sector.
  • Support the direction and strategic planning for the organization by exercising leadership as a member of the Leadership Team, attending retreats and planning sessions.
  • Develop the annual giving budget targets.
  • Maintain a portfolio of 5-10 major donors.
  • Give leadership and supervision to the Donor Relations, Development and Constituent Response teams and approve the direction and content for fundraising.

2. Donor Relations

  • Work with Director of Donor Relations to develop a multi-year donor relations strategy, an annual donor relations plan and the associated budgets. This includes working with the donor relations team to determine the overall fundraising campaign strategies and goals for each campaign.
  • Working closely with the President and Director of Donor Relations, develop specific messaging and messaging themes for each major donor communication initiative.
  • Oversee the creation of these donor communication initiatives (includes direct mail fundraising letters, donor newsletters, donor recognition projects, donor emails, online donor-related content, etc).

3. Development

  • Provide accountability, strategic leadership and high-level oversight of the activities of the Donor Development team.
  • Oversee the raising of funds for each special project and the development of the support resources needed to raise these funds.
  • Accompany each Development Director at least once per year while they meet with donors (this requires travel across Canada).

4. Constituent Response

  • Provide supervision and work with the Manager of Constituent Response to ensure the delivery of a high standard of customer service to both internal and external individuals.

About You

  • Post secondary education or professional training in donor relations, fundraising, marketing, business administration or a related discipline.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to craft the right message for the right audience.
  • 10-15 years of senior practical experience and leadership in donor relations, fundraising, marketing, project management, business analysis or similar
  • Proven experience in fundraising and donor development
  • Experience in managing a multi-channel organizational plan.
  • Skilled in research, analysis, problem solving and identifying trends in data.
  • An ability to take initiative and work independently with strong organization and time management skills.
  • An ability to work cross-functionally for which the incumbent will not necessarily directly manage all of the resources through deadline-driven projects.
  • Advanced skills with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook; proficient with Windows and internet browsing application. Familiarity with a CRM database and / or SQL reporting services would be considered an asset.

Maintain a God-honouring testimony in conduct, attitude and verbal expression of your faith to staff, colleagues and those we serve. You must take a keen interest in understanding human behaviour and what motivates people to take certain actions. Above all, you must have a consistent witness for Jesus Christ and maintain a courteous Christlike attitude in dealing with people within and outside Focus by adhering to our standard moral conduct and Statement of Faith and demonstrate a whole-hearted desire to contribute to the mission of Focus on the Family Canada.
