Kerith Retreats is an established ministry initiative of Focus on the Family Canada dedicated to providing personalized programs for individuals and married couples in ministry who are seeking spiritual renewal with Christ through a small-group retreat environment. Our Hope Restored department plans and coordinates Focus Canada’s Christ-centred marriage ministry through intensive marriage counselling programs including group and individual sessions.

We are currently recruiting for a talented and versatile on-site couple. One person would function as the Volunteer Manager/Administrative Assistant and their spouse would take on the role of Facilities Manager. These positions are based out of Priddis, AB. 

 

Volunteer Manager/Administrative Assistant
About the Position

Reporting to the Kerith Creek Program Directors, the Volunteer Manager/Admin Assistant will be responsible for recruiting and coordinating volunteer hosts, coordinating food services and providing administrative support.

Key responsibilities: 

  • Work with the Program Directors and Facilities Manager to develop and manage a sustainable volunteer host team for Kerith Creek events and facility.
  • Coordinate hosting schedule for Kerith Retreats and Hope Restored events.
  • Recruit and train new hosts as needed.
  • Provide housekeeping for the suites in the residence as needed.
  • In coordination with the Program Directors and other staff and/or volunteers, ensure that facilities are ready for all retreats, intensives and other Focus events.
  • Prepare make-ahead dishes in larger batches periodically (baking, chili, lasagna, soups, etc.), ideally with the help of a volunteer team that you recruit and manage.
  • Call guests with special dietary needs and go over the menu with them, identifying substitutions or accommodations.
  • Support hosts when they are on-site with questions/concerns.
  • Launder table linens during retreats.
  • In consultation with your supervisor, revise and maintain hosting manual as needed.
  • Provide administrative support to the Kerith Retreats staff.
  • Provide administrative support to the Hope Restored staff (e.g., printing documents, compiling welcome folders, maintaining on-site supplies as requested, scanning and uploading documents post-intensives, occasionally filling in for the registrar as needed to address informational questions).
  • Fill in as host couple as needed, usually when no one else is available or if last-minute changes occur.

About You
  • Experience working in a Christian retreat setting is highly desirable
  • Experience working with volunteers, supervising, training and encouraging them
  • Demonstrated ability to cook and plan meals for groups between 6-20 people
  • Demonstrated administrative experience is desirable
  • Basic knowledge of computers, including word processing, emails, virtual meetings, etc.

 

Facilities Manager
About the Position

The Facilities Manager assumes responsibility for coordinating the care and maintenance of the facilities and groundskeeping for Kerith Creek. It is highly desirable that this is accomplished through recruiting, supervising and encouraging teams of volunteers. The Facilities Manager may also be called upon as needed to assist with housekeeping, particularly in the residence and may be required to provide hosting duties from time to time.

Key responsibilities: 

  • Under the supervision of the Program Directors, assemble and execute a maintenance schedule.
  • Assist other staff and volunteers to facilitate interior maintenance, post-retreat janitorial lodge clean-up (linens, washrooms, suites, kitchen, floors, etc.) and other requirements of the lodge and residence buildings.
  • Groundskeeping and snow removal in conjunction with the volunteer team.
  • Improve trails and maintain treed areas close to the buildings in conjunction with volunteer project teams.
  • Oversee and coordinate various volunteer groups on-site for work projects in conjunction with, or mutually determined with, the Program Directors.
  • Assist Program Directors with recruiting and encouraging host couples (and individuals) for Kerith Retreats as well as Hope Restored intensives.
  • Fill in as host couple as needed, usually when no one else is available or if last-minute changes occur.

About You
  • Experience working in a Christian retreat setting is highly desirable
  • Experience working with volunteers, supervising, training and encouraging them
  • Basic knowledge of building maintenance, safety procedures and groundskeeping
  • Ability to plan and anticipate needs
  • Ability to motivate others, work cooperatively with staff and volunteers
  • Ability to give and receive direction and feedback as required
