How to Move Forward

Melissa and John are two stories of how someone can experience depression, but there are many other ways not described in this series. In this video, Jennifer Antonsen explains how depression, like any other health struggle, can happen to anyone. It is not wise to stay silent about depression. God has people ready to walk with you to find healing. Remember: You are not alone.

After watching video 6, follow these steps to get the most out of this part of the series:

// Step 1

Read and meditate on this passage: “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:15-16)

// Step 2

Answer these discussion questions:

    1. Do you believe God offers compassion to those struggling like Elijah? What can you learn from that story about being more compassionate to yourself?
    2. “God will listen to you with kindness and compassion.” Do you believe this? What lies may you be believing instead?
    3. If you believe you are experiencing depression, or you’re concerned about someone you love, what steps can you take to get help?

// Step 3

Read the articleBattling dark days with beauty and joy” to learn how constantly exposing our hearts and minds to beauty around us is good for our bodies and souls.

// Step 4
