After watching video five, consider taking these steps to get the most out of this part of the series:

// Step 1

Read and meditate on this Scripture verse: Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, ‘I believe; help my unbelief!’ (Mark 9:24)

// Step 2

Answer these discussion questions:

    1. In video five Jennifer points out that, whatever the outward signs may be, your child ultimately has a spiritual problem. How does this change how you will pray for your child?
    2. Has your child ever mentioned specific doctrines or issues of faith that they have struggled to accept? Where could you find information on this topic to build a deeper understanding of their struggle? What core beliefs do you still have in common with your child, if any?
    3. Where are you modelling trust in your Heavenly Father as you face a struggle you don’t understand?

// Step 3

Spend time in prayer:

Heavenly Father,
When we look at our child from the outside, its hard to know whats going on in their heart and how far they really are from you.
We ask that you meet our child wherever theyre at: in their confusion, their disappointment, their hurt and even in their indifference toward you.
Please reveal yourself to them so they begin to take baby steps back to you.
And please continue to show us ways that we can be stepping stones that help our child return to you, rather than barriers that keep them from you.
Amen.

// Step 4

Read the article The deconstruction of Christianity: Survival tips for parents of adult children” by Rhonda Robinson.

// Step 5

Listen fo the Focus on the Family broadcast When Your Son or Daughter Is Deconstructing Faithfor guidance from John Marriott on how to have constructive discussions with young adults who are having doubts about the Christian faith.
