Kerith Retreats is an established ministry initiative of Focus on the Family Canada dedicated to providing personalized programs for individuals and married couples in ministry who are seeking spiritual renewal and deepened intimacy with Christ through a small-group retreat environment. 

As the ideal candidates, you will have at least 10 years’ experience serving as a senior pastoral couple. Each of you must have a personal relationship with God that sustains a strong, healthy marital relationship. You must also model integrity in your personal and private lives and have a gift of working together as a couple to offer spiritual coaching. In order to minister to and support couples who are facing personal and public crises, it is beneficial if you have also experienced a struggle in your own lives that brought you closer to God and to one another as you continue on a path of healing and recovery. 

  • Serve as program leaders an average of 1 week per month 
  • Flexibility and effective communication skills as you work with a local team of staff and volunteers.
  • Accommodation and meals available onsite during the event you are leading

Job Purpose:

The Ontario Kerith Waters Co-Director develops, coordinates and implements the seven-day ministry leaders retreats at the Ontario Kerith Waters Retreat Centre along with representative management members of Focus Canada.

Key Job Functions:

  • Lead seven-day ministry couple retreat with Kerith Waters Co-director as developed in conjunction with Focus’ stakeholders, primarily at Kerith Waters but with flexibility for other locations and opportunities as presented
  • Maintain the integrity of program content by adhering to the program and schedule as developed. Any significant changes must be discussed with the greater Kerith Retreat team prior to modifying the current program
  • Participate in a retreat debrief with the local team after each retreat  
  • In conjunction with the team ensure the one year follow up procedures with retreat guests are maintained and adhered to according to the developed procedures    
  • Strategic planning along with other identified internal stakeholders 

Skills and Experience:

  1. Professional Experience:
    • Minimum 10 years practical pastoral couple ministry experience in a senior pastor role and having experienced personal and professional loss in church ministry
  2. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    • Competent in required computer skills, especially the MS Office suite
    • Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and Taylor Johnson Temperament Analysis certification (we can train if necessary)
  3. Personal Characteristics:
    • Strong marriage relationship, able to work together and share responsibility while maintaining a healthy work-life balance
    • Ability to warmly relate and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
    • Flexible and creative in planning and able to maintain a sense of perspective under pressure and when confronted by shifting priorities
