Due to the growth of our organization, we are currently recruiting for the position of Human Resources Assistant to support our Human Resources department as we grow. The position is based out of our head office in Langley, BC, and is not remote. For more information about us, please visit

About the Position

In this position, the Human Resources and Payroll Assistant will provide a variety of support services to the Human Resources (HR) department and Finance in several key areas that will support the advancement of Focus on the Family Canada’s growth and operational objectives. The key areas include recruitment, onboarding, training and development, special projects, staff events and payroll administration. In addition, the assistant will be involved in a number of special projects involving HR metrics and research. The Assistant will support the organization in enhancing a thriving internal culture. The position is hands-on, broad in scope and encompasses a varied range of HR competencies. This will not be a remote position.

About You

For primary consideration you must be a well-rounded emerging HR professional with a desire to learn and grow in the field of human resources. You are passionate about your chosen profession. This will suit a person who has finished their schooling and has several years of practical HR experience including payroll & benefits administration under their belt. You are looking to further your practical experience in this dynamic, Christian and highly service-driven organization. As an ideal candidate you will need to bring the following to this role:

  • Minimum three years of experience in a HR support or generalist role, preferably in a customer-service driven culture, reporting to management. Non-profit HR experience would be a definite asset.
  • A diploma or degree in human resources management or equivalent.
  • Courses in payroll with the Canadian Payroll Association or equivalent.
  • Experience using Payworks or other web-based payroll programs.
  • Your personal values align with the Christian family values and faith-based work of Focus on the Family Canada. You must be a consistent witness for Jesus Christ, maintain a courteous, Christlike attitude in dealing with people, and adhere to our Christian Foundations and Standards.
  • Knowledge of current HR policies and practices that drive a healthy workplace.
  • Knowledge of The Employment Standards Act.
  • Ability to process a semi-monthly payroll and complete necessary supporting documents
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with managers and employees at all levels.
  • Experience working with an HRIS.
  • Capable of assessing training needs, research and development of training programs, and evaluating their success.
  • Tact and diplomacy required to maintain the utmost confidentiality of information.
  • Strong administrative and organizational capabilities.
  • Ability to assist in organizing activities/events to enhance a strong internal culture.
  • A valid CPHR (Chartered Professional Human Resources) designation or nearing completion would be a definite asset.
